Favorite Apps
- Socrative - a smart student response system that empowers teachers to engage their classrooms through a series of educational games and exercises.
- PicCollage - creates digital posters, presentations and graphic organizers. It has a great feature that allows an image or video search within the app.
- Notability - a great notetaking app that allows users to edit pdfs, pictures and voice as well as create their own.
- Algebra Touch - allows the user to work problems for pemdas without having to do the arithmatic
- Zite - this app creates a personalized magazine. The user tells it what kinds of articles to look for and it puts them all in one place.
- Flipboard - similar to Zite but you can add social media like Twitter and Facebook to the magazine.
- Tools4Students - editable and emailable graphic organizers
- Storykit - digital storytelling. It allows you to add text, images and voice on each "page" of your work
- inspiration lite - mind mapping
- scribble press - creates ebooks. There are templates or you can free form a book
- subtext - this has potential. It is an app that has teachers create literature circles and has them reading and doing all the work online. The downfall is that you have to buy the books online. I didn't see free books that students could read. I need to spend more time with this app.
- stanza - allows you to download free books from open source
- Skitch - photo editing
- Photopad - photo editing
- Class Dojo - class behavior management. I can't find this as an app. This is the website.
- ThreeRing - keep all your conferring notes, behavior notes etc in one place
- Who has What - keeps track of stuff you lent out and to whom
- Educreations - great for screencasting
- Explain Everything - also great for screencasting with more functions than Educreations - not free
- ScreenChomp - another screencasting app , I have not used this one
- EduTecher - great edTech resource for teachers. Has app reviews, demos, web tools and more.
- Dropbox - cloud storage
- Evernote - clipping software for the web. Frankly, everyone talks about this, but I find it slightly confusing. I am not comfortable with it by any means.
- Common Core - This has the new math and Language Arts standards
- TED - great videos of the movers, thinkers and players of the day. Very inspirational - Try TEDed as well, it is for educators.
- Aurasma Lite - silly app that puts an animated gif/jpg on a pic that you've taken so that it looks like there is something magical. Kids would have fun with this, I can not see the educational benefit of it, it's just fun
- Upad Lite - like noteability with less functions EXCEPT the ability to have students lock a folder so only they can access it. I think Upad(paid) would probably be better.
- QR Reader - allows you to read and make QR codes
- HaikuDeck - Similar to keynote. Great presentation app. It has a great feature that allows an image search within the app.
- Popplet - a great app for creating graphic organizers and organizing information
- quizlet - creates flashcards sets for studying
- Thinglink - make an image interactive by adding video, text and image tags
- Puppet Edu - video creation app
- Buddy Poke and My School Avatar - both of these apps allow students to create an avatar that can be used to record video. I have used this in conjunction with PicCollage for student presentations.
- Schoology - this is the Learning Management System that we are using in our district.
